Description:
Eugenol is obtained from clove oil. It is a light yellow liquid. It darkens and thickens upon exposure to air. It has a clove-like odor. It is practically insoluble in water. It is soluble in alcohol, chloroform, ether, and oils.
It has an anodyne (calming) action on the pulp, which is why it is often used as a waiting dressing for restorations.
It has analgesic, antiseptic and balsamic, anti-inflammatory and healing qualities.

• Eugenol is a colorless or yellow oily liquid with a strong, aromatic clove odor and a spicy flavor;
  
• Zinc oxide and eugenol pastes have good biological compatibility, which can influence the repair of both the pulp organ and surgical wounds;
  
• Slightly soluble in water and completely soluble in alcohol, ether, chloroform, fixed oils and glacial acetic acid.
