Citronella is widely used in deodorant, soap, and sanitary product formulations, as well as insect repellent cosmetics. The herb is also widely used in Chinese cuisine. Its fresh, herbaceous, and lemony aroma is well known to most people. The oil is yellow in color. Cymbopogon winterianus is known as Java citronella. Therapeutically, it is considered an excellent anti-inflammatory due to its high citronellal content (30-35%), unlike Ceylon citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), which has a much lower citronellal content, ranging from 5-8%.

Because it is not irritating to the skin, citronella oil can be incorporated into massages, diluted in vegetable oil, to relieve muscle pain.

Precautions:

It is not recommended for people with heart problems or during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
