The genus Mentha comprises 25 to 30 natural species, but there are more than 300 hybrids already described from various plants.

Mentha piperita is a hybrid between Mentha spicata and Mentha aquatica. Native to Europe, it is now widespread throughout the rest of the world.

It is a herbaceous plant, reaching up to 90 cm in height, and can grow anywhere, although it prefers humid and shaded places.

Peppermint essential oil contains a high amount of menthol, approximately 40%. This compound has been used for various purposes in various products, primarily due to its highly refreshing aroma.

Approximately 60 kg of the plant are needed to extract 1 liter of essential oil.

In aromatherapy, Peppermint essential oil is known as the oil of concentration.
